Viatel Tecnologias has focused on the growing relationship with producers in the areas of information and communication technology to provide solutions and professional services to end customers in Portugal, such as Altice, Nos, Vodafone, Cellnex and APDL – Administração dos Portos do Douro e Leixões.

With Huawei, Viatel develops transmission projects using DWDM technology for the transport network of Vodafone and Altice customers. This technology allows the use of a single pair of optical fibre to supply multiple frequencies (multiple Terabit/s).

Viatel was also awarded the project to install this transmission system on Madeira Island/Porto Santo, comprising 8 new sites.

Also for the Huawei customer, Viatel maintains the contract in the Information Technology and IP area, for the integration of servers and data storage solutions (Storage), among other equipment from the Huawei portfolio whose associated services include installing this equipment and a 24/7 first-rate maintenance contract.

During the first six months of the year, Viatel completed the second and third phases of installation for Huawei in the “Universidade de Aveiro 5G” project, promoted by the Telecommunications Institute of the University of Aveiro. A partnership between the university, Bosch, Porto de Aveiro and Altice was established with a view to creating a laboratory dedicated to 5G and Artificial Intelligence.

Also with regard to providing services to Huawei, during the first half of 2021 a second node of the Bosch Core network was installed, in addition to coverage in some areas of the factory, as well as the construction of a new site for 5G coverage in the Porto de Aveiro.

With Ericsson, during the 1st quarter of the year, Viatel provided services on Vodafone's MBH (Mobile Backhaul - the network that allows the interconnection of mobile service communication stations with fixed networks) network regarding the process of expansion of the network 5G in the North.

With other customers, it is also worth noting the continuity of general maintenance services of the various systems existing in the communication infrastructures of the Douro waterway, for APDL and the operation and maintenance of the Sigfox network for Cellnex, in Portugal.
